UX Update - New Navigation and Dashboards Experience

A redesigned global navigation and consolidated dashboards experience, now available for all Veza tenants.

We're excited to share two major UX improvements now available for all Veza tenants: a consolidated dashboards experience and a reimagined global navigation. These changes help you access critical features faster, optimize screen real estate, and create a more intuitive experience for new users and long-time Veza experts alike.

What Has Changed?

This release includes two changes:

  • Reports and Dashboards merge: Reports and Dashboards have been merged into a unified experience with tile and list views, and an improved full-screen dashboard editor.

  • New global navigation: A modern three-column layout with icon-driven primary navigation, a collapsible secondary menu, and an enhanced top toolbar.

Bookmarks and URLs: All page URLs remain unchanged. Bookmarks, saved links, and existing report URLs will automatically redirect to their new dashboard locations.

Reports and Dashboards Merge

Veza has consolidated Reports and Dashboards into a single unified experience under Dashboards.

  • Unified Dashboards experience: Reports and Dashboards have been merged into a single view, with tile and list layouts available on the Dashboards page.

  • Improved dashboard editor: A redesigned full-screen editing experience is now available from the Dashboard Library, making it easier to create and customize query-based dashboards.

  • Favorites and views: Mark dashboards as favorites for quick access, and switch between tile and list views on the Dashboards page. The list view mirrors the previous Reports table.

  • Saving queries to dashboards: The previous "Add to Report" option when saving queries is now "Add to Dashboard" in the Query Builder save dialog.

The Dashboards page supports two display modes. Tile view shows queries as visual cards with trend charts, risk levels, and result counts:

List view presents the same queries in a tabular format, mirroring the previous Reports experience:

For details, see Dashboards.

New Global Navigation

Most product names and fundamental concepts remain the same. The new navigation introduces a modern three-column layout with icon-driven primary navigation, a collapsible secondary menu, and an enhanced top toolbar.

Enhanced Left Navigation

The left navigation panel now uses an icon-first design to maximize your workspace in Veza:

  • A Featured section provides quick access to frequently-used tools: Dashboards, Graph Search, Query Builder, and Integrations

  • The Products section clearly groups Veza product offerings for better organization. Products with multiple features display sub-menu items in a secondary panel that slides in from the left

  • Administration and user options are consolidated at the bottom of the navigation

You can hover over the navigation to expand labels and see full product names, and toggle to keep the sub-menu panel open while you work.

The sidebar presents product areas as icons with sub-menus in a secondary panel

Top Toolbar Improvements

The top toolbar provides quick access to Alerts, Documentation, and other tools:

  • The Alerts bell icon in the top-right corner shows a real-time notification badge when new alerts are available. Click the bell to open the Rules and Alerts page

  • When applicable, Access AI toggles and Dashboard Search remain in their familiar locations

  • Documentation links are now accessible from the top-right corner via an icon (previously at the bottom of the left panel)

Team and User Settings

Team switching has been redesigned for clarity:

  • Switch Team is now shown at the bottom of the left navigation (previously displayed the current team name)

  • Switch to Access Hub or Switch to Console options now appear at the bottom of the left navigation (previously at the top)

  • User preferences remain located in the bottom section of the navigation

The visual-first approach may require some adjustment while you learn the new Veza iconography. While getting used to the new symbols, you can switch between icons and full-text labels by expanding the sidebar.

Collapsed Navigation

Hover over the Veza icon on the top left to expand the navigation menu.

Pinning Sub-Menus

You can pin a sub-menu to keep it open when needed, allowing you to navigate between related features without repeatedly opening the menu.

Keyboard Navigation

The new navigation supports keyboard shortcuts for accessibility:

  • Arrow Right: Move focus from a main navigation item into its sub-menu

  • Arrow Left: Return focus from a sub-menu to the parent navigation item

  • Arrow Up/Down: Navigate between items within a sub-menu

Why Are We Making These Changes?

As Veza has grown to include more products and features, navigating with a single, ever-expanding sidebar became challenging. Consolidating Reports into Dashboards simplifies the product surface, while the new navigation reduces the number of menu items and helps users quickly access tools like Graph and Query Builder, which were previously relegated to submenus.

These changes address common pain points by:

  • Promoting frequently-used features: Graph, Query Builder, and Alerts are now immediately accessible without expanding menus

  • Reducing screen clutter: Icon-oriented design and a collapsible secondary panel provide room to focus on work

  • Improving feature discoverability: Clear groupings between featured products and settings help new users understand Veza's capabilities at a glance

  • Adding flexibility: You can now pin the sub-menu panel or show menu names when needed, and hide them when not required

These UX improvements are the foundation for additional enhancements planned throughout 2026.

Availability

The new navigation and consolidated dashboards experience are available for Veza SaaS tenants. The navigation was initially offered in Early Access starting in late November 2025 and is now generally available as the default for all SaaS users.

Frequently asked questions

General

chevron-rightDo I need to do anything?hashtag

No action is required. Your existing reports, saved queries, bookmarks, and URLs all continue to work. No permissions or role configurations need to change.

chevron-rightCan I switch back to the old navigation?hashtag

The new navigation is the default for all users. If you're experiencing a specific issue with the new interface, contact [email protected]envelope.

Dashboards

chevron-rightWhere did my Reports go?hashtag

Your reports were automatically migrated to Dashboards. They are accessible as List View on the Dashboards page. All original queries and configurations are preserved.

chevron-rightWhat is the difference between Tile View and List View?hashtag

Both views show the same dashboards and queries:

  • Tile view (default): Displays queries as visual cards with trend charts, risk levels, and result counts.

  • List view: Presents queries in a tabular format, mirroring the previous Reports experience. Includes columns for name, results, change, risk level, visibility, labels, integration types, and last sync time.

Use the toggle in the dashboard header to switch between views. Your preference is saved automatically.

chevron-rightHow do I save a query to a dashboard?hashtag

The Add to Report option in the Query Builder save dialog is now Add to Dashboard. The behavior is identical.

chevron-rightCan I edit the built-in (out-of-the-box) dashboards?hashtag

Yes. We recommend cloning a dashboard first to preserve the original. Select Clone from the dashboard's item menu, then edit the copy.

chevron-rightWhat happened to the "Dashboard Reports" category?hashtag

The previous "Dashboard Reports" home page category has been removed. Dashboard management now happens in the Dashboard Library. Use Favorites to pin dashboards for quick access.

chevron-rightWhere is everything in the new sidebar?hashtag

The sidebar has three sections:

  • Featured (top): Quick access to Dashboards, Graph Search, Query Builder, and Integrations.

  • Products (middle): All Veza product areas. Hovering over a product icon opens a secondary panel:

    • Access Intelligence: Dashboards, Risks, Rules and Alerts, Overview, Analyze, Compare, Role Definitions, VQL, Tags.

    • Access Visibility: Graph Search, Query Builder, Queries.

    • Access Reviews: Configurations, Reviews, Certifications.

    • NHI Security: Overview, NHI Inventory, NHI Dashboards.

    • Lifecycle Management: Policies, Profiles, Activity.

    • Separation of Duties: SoD Queries, SoD Analysis.

    • Integrations: All data source connectors.

  • Administration (bottom): System settings, user management, team switching, and user preferences.

chevron-rightWhere are Alerts and Rules now?hashtag

The Alerts bell icon is in the top-right toolbar. It shows a live badge when new alerts are available. Click it to open Rules and Alerts. The rules engine, alert logic, and Veza Actions are unchanged.

chevron-rightWhere is "Saved Queries"?hashtag

Saved Queries is now labeled Queries and is located under Access Visibility in the Products section. Graph Search and Query Builder are also available in the Featured section.

chevron-rightWhere is documentation now?hashtag

Documentation links are in the top-right toolbar via the book icon. They were previously at the bottom of the left sidebar.

Functionality and APIs

chevron-rightDid anything break or get removed?hashtag

No features were removed. All product areas are fully intact. The update is a structural reorganization, not a reduction in capabilities. All existing API calls, automation scripts, and VQL queries continue to work without changes.

chevron-rightDo my existing alert rules still work?hashtag

Yes. All existing rules, alert conditions, destinations, and evaluation schedules are unaffected.

Troubleshooting

chevron-rightMy bookmarks or saved URLs aren't working.hashtag

All page URLs are unchanged. Legacy Report URLs automatically redirect to their corresponding Dashboards locations. If a redirect fails, clear your browser cache and navigate manually through the Dashboards sidebar. If the item was set to private, find it directly in the Dashboard Library.

chevron-rightI can't find a query or dashboard I had before.hashtag

No data was deleted during the migration. To locate a missing item:

  1. Go to Dashboards > Library and browse the full list.

  2. Check the Favorites section for previously starred items.

  3. Search by name, integration type, or label.

  4. Switch to List View to browse in table format.

  5. Verify the item's visibility setting — private dashboards are only visible to assigned owners.

Self-hosted and LTR deployments

chevron-rightMy Veza interface looks different from the documentation. Why?hashtag

If you are on a self-hosted Veza deployment (Virtual Private Veza) or a Long-Term Release, your instance may be running an earlier version that does not yet include the new navigation or unified Dashboards experience. Contact your Veza account team for upgrade information.

chevron-rightWhen will self-hosted and LTR customers receive these updates?hashtag

Upgrade availability varies by deployment and contract. Contact your Veza account team for your specific timeline.

chevron-rightIs the documentation still accurate for my older version?hashtag

Feature documentation on this site describes the current Veza interface. If your deployment shows a separate Reports page or the previous sidebar layout, the navigation paths in the docs may differ. Core functionality — rules, alerts, queries, and API behavior — is the same across versions.
